What to expect: Perched on Gros Ventre Butte, 1,000 feet above the Jackson Hole valley, this ranch resort is on a 1,000-acre wildlife refuge facing the jagged Grand Teton peaks. Bales of hay and an old-fashioned sleigh flank the entrance to the main building. Inside by the fireplace, guests relax on leather sofas arrayed around a coffee table with a clock surface. The resort caters to affluent outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate the peaceful, natural setting.
Amenity highlights: The Granary, the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant, serves creative Western cuisine accompanied by views of the Tetons. The on-site Western Riding Center offers trail rides through spectacular scenery, and the Nordic Center provides almost 10 miles of groomed track. The hotel has a seasonal outdoor lap pool and two tennis courts, and a spa tub sheltered by aspens adjoins a pond with a waterfall.
Insider tip: Granite Hot Springs, situated at an elevation of 7,000 feet in the Gros Ventre Mountains, offers natural beauty and a mineral-water soaking pool heated to 103–108 degrees. Recreation

The resort’s Western Riding Center features one- and two-hour trail rides with glorious views. In summer, guests can combine a ride with a morning or evening cookout. The Nordic Center provides almost 10 miles of groomed track, a Nordic skating loop, and guided tours into Grand Teton National Park. The spa offers yoga classes year-round and water yoga in summer. Adjacent to the Ranch House are a seasonal outdoor pool and two tennis courts (complimentary equipment provided). The fitness center has cardio machines, resistance equipment, free weights, and a spa tub.

The Snow King Ski Resort, 4.5 miles away, offers 400 acres of skiable terrain (15% beginner, 25% intermediate, 60% advanced) accessible by five lifts. Snow King also has a tubing park and a snowboard park with halfpipe. The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, 13 miles from the hotel, has 11 lifts and 2,500 acres of in-bound ski terrain, plus more than 3,000 backcountry acres. Trails are 10% beginner, 40% intermediate, and 50% advanced; snowboarding is permitted.
