What to expect: Located on a quiet section of the Riverwalk, this 99-room hotel greets guests with a sumptuous lobby anchored by a large limestone fireplace and appointed with leather chairs, wrought-iron furnishings, and rich, warmly colored fabrics. Opened in January 2003, the hotel offers an attractive downtown location for business travelers, conventioneers, and vacationing couples.
Amenity highlights: A quiet, candlelit foyer sets the tone for the Watermark Spa, a 17,000-square-foot sanctuary with 20 treatment rooms. Signature, Western-inspired therapies include the Avocado Lime Blossom Scalp and Body Treatment, the Mesquite Clay Wrap, and the Purple Sage Salt Glow. There are separate locker rooms and treatment rooms for women and men, and massage suites for couples. The Spa Boutique sells gifts such as candles, skin-care products, and robes.
Insider tip: Three blocks from the hotel is the Alamo, home to the most famous battle of the Texas Revolution. Although many visitors are content to have their photo taken out front, there is much to see inside. The old church displays artifacts from Alamo heroes, including William Barret Travis’ ring and Davy Crockett’s buckskin knife.

Pesca on the River Styled with casual elegance, this restaurant opens to a riverside terrace with umbrellatopped tables. A stoneandglass oyster bar is the centerpiece of the indoor dining room. The menu features fresh seafood, steaks, and salads. Highlights may include Seared Rare Tuna with Fennel Saffron Purée, Wild Fresh Gulf Shrimp with Chilies, and Maine Lobster. The wine cellar provides New and Old World selections. Open for lunch and dinner.
Rooftop Café On the top floor of the hotel, this relaxed café opens to the rooftop pool and patio. The breakfast menu may include Panini French Toast with Maple Syrup, and OpenFaced Omelet with Local Peppers. Lunch features creative sandwiches and salads.
