More about The St. Regis, New York

What to expect: Edwardian elegance and gracious service are the hallmarks of this hotel, designated a New York City Landmark in 1988 and beautifully restored in 1991. Guests enter through a frosted-glass portico to a marble-clad, gilded lobby beneath chandeliers and a ceiling fresco of the sky. Bell staff attired in top hat and tails, elevator attendants, and a grandfather clock crowned by a bronze cherub evoke Old New York. Most of New York’s grand hotels are on the Upper East Side; well-heeled travelers seeking retro luxury in the heart of Midtown near shopping and dining are drawn to the St. Regis.
Amenity highlights: The hotel’s lower level includes a fitness center featuring cardio machines equipped with plasma-screen TVs and built-in CD and DVD players. The Spa offers four treatment rooms, a range of therapies, and Carita Le Visage spa products. The Fiori flower shop, a luxury gift shop, and Fodera beauty salon are also located on the lower level.
Insider tip: Guests proceeding through the lobby toward the King Cole Bar and its Maxfield Parrish mural often miss the other Parrish painting on display. Entitled Child Harvester, it hangs across the way from the Cognac Room, a small jewel of a sitting room with a large fireplace, red silk-upholstered furniture, antique cabinets, and a bronze chandelier.

Dinining

  • Lespinasse Beautifully appointed, Lespinasse is the highly acclaimed signature restaurant of The St. Regis. The restaurant is a fitting showplace for Chef Christian Delouvrier's distinctive cooking style focusing on Cuisine de terre ("cuisine of the earth")—a style of cooking from the southwest of France. Lespinasse represents oldworld comfort at its most luxurious. Awarded four stars by The New York Times and bestowed AAA's Five Diamond Award and Mobil's Five Star Award.
  • Astor Court For afternoon tea, the Astor Court lounge is a picture of perfection. This fashionable meeting place provides drinks, light snacks, and decadent desserts—all served under exquisite raised ceilings adorned with trompe l'oeil clouds and otherworldly murals. When the harpist entertains, it's just this side of heaven.

King Cole Bar and Lounge Maxfield Parish's beloved and famed mural is the focal point of this whimsical, yet sophisticated lounge. Warm cherry wood and 19thcentury French tub chairs create the perfect setting for a cool drink. Try the Red Snapper Cocktail, which originated here but later became the Bloody Mary.
