More about John Ascuagas Nugget
What to expect: John Ascuaga's Nugget is a family owned, family friendly resort. Son of Basque immigrants, Ascuaga built the Nugget from a roadside coffee shop that opened in 1955. His touch is noticeable in details large and small, such as spic-and-span ambience and a reception desk accessible without having to walk through the casino area.
Amenity highlights: During warm weather, sliding glass panels allow fresh air into the fifth floor, which houses the large atrium pool. Open-air sunning decks outside the structure offer unobstructed mountain views. Eight one-person spas flank one side of the pool, and a large, round spa provides soaking for 16 at pool's end. Thickly padded chairs and lounges line the surrounding deck. A tent permits private massage.
Insider tip: Right outside the casino, downtown Sparks offers Victorian Square, which offers interactive fountains and gazebos. Live music is featured on some summer evenings. Victorian Square is also home to many special events, including The Big Easy, Hometown Christmas, and Hot August Nights.
