More about The Ritz-Carlton, Boston

What to expect: This 17-story historic hotel is decorated in original 19th-century art and antiques, glass chandeliers, and wood-burning fireplaces. Windows offer panoramic views of the Public Garden, Newbury Street designer shops, and Commonwealth Avenue mansions. Since 1927, it has attracted a sophisticated clientele, including celebrities, royalty, business travelers with children, and theatergoers.
Amenity highlights: Service in many forms makes the Ritz-Carlton a luxurious icon. The focus is on the guest, from complimentary overnight shoeshine service to 24-hour in-room dining to a Bath Butler who draws custom baths upon request. The hotel offers a 3,000-square-foot fitness center with separate aerobic and weight rooms and complimentary use of a 100,000-square-foot health club 2 blocks from the hotel. Open daily for breakfast and lunch; dinner Sunday through Thursday. Collared shirts and slacks required for men during the day; jackets suggested for evenings.
  • The Bar This wellknown spot for cocktails opened in the 1930s to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. Upholstered chairs around intimate tables.
