What to expect: Part residence, part upscale hotel, the Belden-Stratford occupies a 1924 building in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The expansive lobby is appointed with Empire-style furnishings, a gold-and-alabaster chandelier, hand-woven tapestries, plush carpeting, and vintage brass railings. The high, vaulted ceiling is hand-painted with a sky pattern. - Ambria One of Chicago’s toprated restaurants, Ambria has received the Five Diamond Award from AAA and four stars from the Mobil Travel Guide, the Chicago Tribune, and Chicago Magazine. Creative French fare is served in an intimate setting of ultrasuede banquettes, Art Nouveau architectural details, and fresh flowers. Tiny shaded lamps gently illuminate the tables. Choices include classic, vegetarian, and shellfish tasting menus, “main plates” such as Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Braised Beef Ravioli, and desserts such as Raspberry Soufflé, Chocolate Euphoria Cake, and Soft Pecan Caramel with Almond Brittle. Open for dinner Monday–Saturday. Jackets and reservations required.
