• The Lobby Lounge Once the hotel’s main entryway, this ornate but relaxed lounge has floortoceiling windows offering panoramic views of the Horseshoe Garden. Formal afternoon tea is served Thursday through Sunday.

• The Bar The lobbyside lounge has a both a fireplace and an outdoor deck overlooking the gardens. Weekend evenings, the room is packed with hotel guests and Pasadena locals enjoying live piano music, appetizers, and housefavorite cobaltblue martinis.
• The Dining Room A banquette lines the side wall of this formal dining room; intimate tables are placed just far enough apart for private conversation. A menu of contemporary California cuisine with classic European influences highlights fine regional wines and seasonal and local produce. House specialties include pistachiocrusted Dover sole and poached lobster with Swiss chard, raisins, carrots, and pine nut ragout. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday.

Built in 1997 and renovated in 2003, this first-ever Ritz-Carlton spa was opened in the hotel’s old carriage house. A heated pool, sundeck, and spa tub overlook the Japanese gardens. Three lighted tennis courts may be reserved at no charge; racquets and balls are complimentary, and private or small-group lessons can be arranged (surcharge). The fitness center offers complimentary exercise classes, free weights, multi-station machines, and cardio equipment, including virtual-reality bikes and climbers programmed to display individualized videos and sounds on 20-inch color monitors; guests select preferred environments, from tropical paradise to mountain hideaway. Bicycles are available for rent. Hotel guests may use the spa sauna, steam room, and locker-room free of charge.

The spa staff recommends safe, scenic jogging routes of 1-5 miles. Concierge can arrange hiking, horseback riding, and trail biking in the Lower Arroyo Recreation Area, about 2.5 miles north of the hotel. The Arroyo-adjacent Brookside Recreation Area is home to the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center and two golf courses; additional courses are nearby.
