Recreation

Two freeform pools are located on terraces running the length of the resort's 600-meter (656-yard) beach. One measures 183 meters (200 yards), includes three jetted sections and a swim-up bar, and is paired with a children's pool. The other, a two-level affair, measures 115 meters (126 yards), including a section roped off for exclusive use by guests of Royal Pyramid rooms.

An independent water-sports center, AquaWorld, rents snorkeling gear and boogie boards at the resort, offers parasailing flights off the beach, and conducts scuba-diving classes in the larger pool.

AquaWorld's marina, across the street from the resort, offers myriad aquatic activities, including kayaking, personal watercraft, sailing, and windsurfing. The marina also books fishing trips and scuba-diving and snorkeling excursions.

The resort has a 9-hole par-3 golf course (surcharge) and a lighted tennis court (surcharge for night play). The 18-hole Hilton golf course is 1 km (0.5 mi) from the hotel, and the 18-hole Pok-Ta-Pok Golf Club is 9 km (5.5 mi) away.

This hotel offers 670 spacious guestrooms and suites in five pyramid-shaped towers of 5-8 stories. Each tower contains a garden/pond atrium topped by a pyramid-shaped skylight. Lacy vines drape the interior. Rooms and suites have marble floors, Mayan-style bas reliefs, upholstered chairs, and dining sets. Large balconies or ground-floor terraces are fringed by plants and furnished with chairs and cocktail tables. Views are of the lagoon or the Caribbean Sea. Marble bathrooms include shower/tub combinations and bidets. Royal Pyramid rooms also provide bathrobes and slippers, a pillow menu, butler service, shoe shines, and access to a private swimming-pool section and pool concierge. Royal Pyramid guests enjoy access to an exclusive check-in/concierge lounge, a polished-wood platform on the atrium's floor surrounded by a tropical garden and flowing water. In the lounge, Royal Pyramid guests are served a deluxe Continental breakfast; all-day nonalcoholic beverages; snacks, beer, wine, and cocktails in the afternoon; and hot and cold appetizers, beer, wine, and international-liquor cocktails in the evening.
