What to expect: Once a prince’s private residence, this building was converted into a hotel at the end of the 19th century. High-ceilinged grandeur earmarks a hall leading to the reception and lobby area. The corridors all have original coffered-wood ceilings, and old-fashioned (but renovated) lifts feature original mirror paneling. The clientele is a mixture of families and business travelers.Amenity highlights: The fifth-floor restaurant features city views. In summer, outdoor dining is available on a huge terrace that encompasses the entire hotel roof. There are also six meeting rooms onsite, in addition to a business center, wireless Internet in the common area of the ground floor, and concierge services.
Insider tip: The hotel has additional private terraces reached via a small stairway. Although only 15 feet higher than the roof, the extra elevation provides a more expansive view. On one side, the entire length of Santa Maria Novella church can be seen. On the other side is a particularly good view of the Duomo.
